How To Relax Your Mind

How To Relax Your Mind

Work, stress, family, social life, physical activity, financial problems, trauma, illnesses… how are you able to relax your mind? Life is a constant battlefield, full of chaotic events and driven by a compulsive urge to make unthinkable decisions. Everywhere you go, stress goes along with you like an unwanted companionship that doesn’t support anything that you may be aiming to do. You may not see it but it’s always with you.

What Is Stress?

According to the definition provided by the Merriam–Webster dictionary, stress is a physical, chemical, or emotional factor that causes bodily or mental tension and may be a factor in disease causation.

Therefore, it can be defined as anything and everything that makes your body and mind challenge each other until it brings you into a chaotic point of anxiousness. Those high levels of anxiety will later have a bigger physical and psychological impact.

Stress affects everyone so don’t feel bad or scared to have your voice be heard when you’re struggling with a certain situation. Do keep in mind that we’re all different and we all cope with things in a particular way. Therefore, what may work for you to release that stressful feeling, it makes not work for me. It’s all a matter of how serious your circumstances are and how your mental health is currently doing; if you’re happy, mad, depressed, sad, etc. Never compare your situation with other people, that will only add more fuel towards making you feel even more insecure about yourself. Believe me, we’re all going through something and we would all like some encouraging words to live by and make our days a little easier to get through.

Words Of Encouragement

Stress isn’t always a bad thing. With that, I’m just stating that we can get stressed for so many different reasons and some of those reasons can be joyful or encouraging situations such as: a work presentation, a raise, a new job, adopting a dog, achieving something you have always wanted to achieve, etc.

Sure enough, not every stressful situation is a threat or flee towards safety.

There are so many ways in which you can get involved towards improving how you’re feeling and how-to process the situation. For example:

  • Set goals and maximize your priorities – Having goals sometimes takes the edge away from certain situations, it can be a motivation to destroy those barriers that are keeping you stuck. Prioritize what you really want to accomplish and stick to that mental state. Enjoy something that brings you joy and doesn’t fuel your stress.
  • Know yourself – This is actually really important. Stress can sometimes be like a blindfold keeping us from seeing how we’re truly feeling and ignoring all of the desperate calls for help that your body is giving you.
  • Don’t completely shut yourself out – This can be really hard when you’re dealing with a mental illness, sometimes you just crave to be alone, while other times you feel like you desperately need someone in your life to hear you out. Don’t shut people out. There’s always going to be a helping hand that will help you and guide you.
  • Seek professional help – I know most people have this idea of not needing any profesional help – at all – because acknowledging that you have a problem and asking for help with someone that knows how to help you, is sometimes a tabú in today’s society. People don’t take therapy seriously, they think it’s just a waste of time and that the professional won’t understand. They do. They really do. You just need to give them a chance. Too scared to face a therapist? Don’t worry! There are other options out there about online therapy that would probably fit you really well.

  1. For me, relaxing the mind resides in exercise and writing. The more I do so, the more the positive endorphins seep through and I tend to get into a very driven state, as if I can overcome any challenge. While I do keep stress in my life to a minimum regardless of a situation, any time I feel stress, anxiety, or anything related pop up it’s always beneficial for me to bust out an awesome workout.

Writing blogs, or even writing fiction is another huge reliever, so by consistently combatting stress with activities that relieve stress for me, my mind is almost always in a relaxed state. It’s all about remaining consistent.

    1. Writing is an amazing way to decompose all of that bottled up stress, sadly, not all of it works for everyone. I am glad that you have found something that actually helps you and keeps you in a stable state.

  2. Hi Stephanie,

I’m so sorry to hear about the abusive childhood which you had to endure, but really glad for you that it’s behind you now.

You are doing an amazing job to improve the quality of others’ lives. I always believe that one always improve your own quality of life, by helping others to succeed and overcome problems.

The most important thing for people to remember is – not where we came from ,but where we are heading. We are definitely NOT defined by our past, or even our circumstances, but by the mental state which we choose in our journey ahead on our way to better things.

We are all unique human beings and each one of us, has unique skills and everyone of us, was put on this earth with a unique purpose which only you can fulfill, and – no one else – even on your behalf.

    Great article!
