For The Rest Of Us…

June 24, 2022, the date everything changed for the rest of us, women and everyone that this event may have an impact on.

In the law of the American constitution, the term “right to privacy” corresponds not to issues of documentation and confidentiality, but rather to the notion that the government has no authority to impact, dictate or damage people’s freedom to make their own choices regarding incredibly intimate, crucial concepts like marital relationship, sexual relationships, and rearing of children.

Roe v. Wade

I wrote some personal thoughts on this topic on one of my favorite learning platforms – which is also where my website is hosted – and the replies have been just unbelievable. Not in a good way. People excused the overruling of Roe v. Wade saying that it has always been that way. The “minor” change was that now states are the ones that will determine if a woman’s right to her body is hers or if she’ll be forced to do something against her will. I love my community and what it represents in my life, but this has been something that struck me in a harmful way, as a woman, I felt like my opinion on this topic was being invalidated. If someone doesn’t want an abortion then that’s great, they shouldn’t have one – it’s their bodies, but who is anyone to judge me for what I want to do with my life. This is the point I was trying to make people see. Sadly, most individuals are blindsided by either politics or religion to actually see the real issue here.

“The right to privacy, whether it be founded in the Fourteenth Amendment’s concept of personal liberty and restrictions upon state action, as we feel it is, or, as the district court determined, in the Ninth Amendment’s reservation of rights to the people, is broad enough to encompass a woman’s decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy.”

This was said in the US Supreme Court on January 22, 1973, according to sources.

Changes

In certain states, the change has so far been abrupt and upsetting for abortion clinics and pregnant women. Clinics have suspended procedures for the risk of prosecution. Women are traveling to seek medical help in other states that do allow safe and legal abortions.

For The Rest Of Us…

California, Oregon, and Washington governors announced a major “commitment to reproductive freedom,” claiming they will indeed embrace individuals seeking abortions in their states and thus would oppose pathetic attempts by other states to penalize them.

The Supreme Court’s ruling echoed around the world, provoking outrage in France, where elected politicians announced on Saturday that they would support a bill preserving the right to abortion in the country’s Constitution.

What most people are not aware of is that this is not just about abortion. This is also about some key basic human rights, including access to birth control, same-sex marriages, anti-discrimination laws, equality, possibly interracial relationships, and voting rights that are targeted to be at risk by the unprogressive court.

According to The Guardian, and I quote, “The three liberal justices dissented, saying the majority opinion, “says that from the very moment of fertilization, a woman has no rights to speak of”, and that conservatives well knew states would enact – and in many cases had already enacted – abortion restrictions to the moment of conception.
Under state restrictions, “a woman will have to bear her rapist’s child or a young girl, her father’s – no matter if doing so will destroy her life”, the liberal justices wrote.”

for the rest of us
From what I’ve gathered throughout the last couple of days, the Constitution cares more about individuals having the right to carry a deadly weapon than for women to have control over what is ours. Abortion may be illegal in many states, but that does not mean that women will not have access to unsafe and risky procedures. Suicide rates are going to go up due to this decision. Women’s lives are even more at risk now that some partners may also be wanting them to have an abortion – let’s say; abusive partners, men who are married and have impregnated another woman, etc. This will all be in the hands of those, who are already stained with red, who took upon themselves to decide what will happen to our bodies without our consent. We won’t forget and we will continue to fight.

I’m open to discussing this topic with anyone who might want to do so. If you would like to share your thoughts, please do so in the comment section down below. This is a safe space for everyone. No hatred is allowed nor will it be tolerated.

  1. Hi Stephanie. Wow where to start, as I know this topic sparks a lot of sensitivity. Obviously for very good reason. For me personally, it should be my choice as this body is mine. My body is not owned by politicians, other peoples religious beliefs or the fears of the uninformed. My body is the only possession I came to planet earth with and I will equally leave with it. If I was harmed by another and it resulted in an unplanned pregnancy, it should be at my discretion as to what I chose to do about the situation. I know some woman have been accused of using abortion as a means of contraception. That does not mean all woman participate in abortion for the same reason. Just because some people shop lift does that mean we should take away the rights for others to shop? Obviously not!

Well done on being transparent about a difficult and sensitive topic. Take Care, Stephanie

    Shelley xx

    1. Hi Shelley!

Thank you for your honesty and for being open about something that’s been tearing up so many people. It’s always up to the woman whether she wants to continue with the pregnancy or not. And that includes everything; not just rape or incest.

Take care. Thank you for being respectful. I appreciate it.

  2. Hi Stephanie,
I am not in the USA but hearing so much about Roe vs Wade being overturned, I wanted to learn more about what this was about so am glad to have found your website in search results.

There are so many options for women with an unplanned pregnancy other than destroying another human life.  My wife worked previously at a pregnancy support centre and there are lots of practical and emotional support available if needed.  Infertility is very common and there are thousands of couples waiting for the chance to be parents.  So an option to consider is to give birth to the child and with the support of adoption agencies, place the baby for adoption.  If you think about this, imagine the joy a woman can provide:
    1. The child is now living and can have a chance to grow up to be whatever they are capable of
    2. The adoptive parents will have a chance to love and nurture this child, otherwise this love that they have an abundance of will go wasted.
    3. The birth mother can know that despite the circumstances of her pregnancy, that she has not killed a human, instead she has given life.  She can make this closed adoption if she chooses or open so the child can contact.  Birth mother can choose whatever option she wants in relation to future contact i.e. it can be none if so desired.

As parents of a now beautiful 6 year old girl, who would have been killed in the womb as her conception was from the circumstances you describe in this article.  Readers please know, Stephanie please consider that there are options.  Being in #2 above the joy daily is indescribable and birth mother can choose whatever contact or no future contact she chooses.  Everyone wins and gets the change to experience life to its fullest.

    1. Hi! Thank you for your output, but as I stated before, it’s up only to the woman to determinate what she wants to do with her body. I came from the foster care system and let me tell you, kids there are not treated well. Foster families often times abuse them and just take them in for the monthly paycheck. Why would a woman who doesn’t want to have a child be forced to do so just because someone else can benefit from it? Infertility is most common than what people know, but the people I do know, don’t want to adopt and that’s their decision. There are already hundreds of kids in the system. Kids that need a family. Kids that are suffering. Why are we focusing on the right of a woman to decide rather than helping kids that are already in the system? If you have an uterus and would like to have the baby, then have it. If another uterus owner doesn’t want to, then that’s THEIR decision. No one else’s to make. We, especially men, shouldn’t be controlling or telling women what to do with what’s theirs. This seems to be more about controlling women rather than leaving them having the choice to determinate what THEY want.
